Green Roof for the Grill Shed; Day 1 slideshow

Yesterday, I replaced the metal roof on my grill shed with a green roof.  Above is a photo album from the first day of construction, today I am going to finish adding the soil mixture and plant some plants.  I'll have more photos and a longer post coming soon with an explanation of the green roof.

  3. Great project! Looking forward to seeing more. I've been eyeing up our garden shed to do the same. An architect told me I just need a second set of beams to accomodate the extra weight. What direction does the roof face?

  4. Hi Heather,
This roof faces south west. I just posted some more photos, and later this week, I'll write a post describing everything.
    Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Thanks everyone for the comments.
Erin- I agree! well, maybe not my house (too much slope), but maybe my garage- the slope is less. So this is kind of a trial and learning experience, maybe the garage will be next.

  10. Looks very well-thought-out! Wondering about that metal flange at the bottom, but I'm sure you'll tell us in the main post.

  11. Great job, David! You transformed your simple shed to an ecological type. Hmm, I wonder if you planted Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) here. It would be a great flower for garden shed. You’ll enjoy looking at your shed when it flourishes into beautiful flowers. =) Anyway, just keep the wood clean to ensure its longevity.
